Who is Praay.org for?
Praay.org is for all Muslims around the world who want to view prayer times for their city. Praay.org supports Sunni, Shia and other schools of thought.
What does Adhan mean?
Muslims around the world use the Adhan to announce the prayer. This is done by a Muadhin. The definition of the word Adhan can be said to be "announcement" or "notification" and the meaning is: The call to prayer. Adhan is pronounced Athan, Azan, Ezan, Azon or Adan. Correct romanized transliteration: adhān.
How are the Adhan times calculated?
You can read about the calculation of adhan times here: Calculation of prayer times
Where do you get your times from?
All times are from praytimes.org which collects data from Islamic institutions such as Muslim World League, University of Iran, Leva Research Institute, Qum and more.
For Shia Ithna Ashari, calculations from the Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran are used. For Ahlul Sunnah wal Jama'a, Muslim World League calculations are used.
Why are your times different from my mosque?
It depends on which calculation institute your mosque uses to display prayer times. For Ahlul Sunnah wal Jama'a, Praay.org uses Muslim World League, which is one of the most recognized. For example, Wakf uses times from the "Islamic Society of North America" (ISNA), and these two institutes have different Fajr times. There can sometimes be up to about half an hour's difference.
Muslim World League is an institute in Saudi Arabia. Praay.org has chosen MWL because it is the institute that most prayer time apps use as default.
Who was Islam's first Muadhin?
Islam's first Muadhin was Bilal Ibn Rabah al-Habashi, peace be upon him (also called Sayyid al-Mu'adhin). Bilal al-Habashi stopped reciting the Adhan when Prophet Muhammad (S) passed away.

Different types of Adhan?
There is a difference in the call to prayer between Sunni and Shia Muslims. See the full comparison on our About page.
Why is there a difference between Shafii/Hanbali/Maliki and Hanafi?
Correct, they are all Sunni Muslims. But according to the Hanafi school of thought, the Asr prayer should be calculated differently. The Hanafi school believes it is Asr when an object's shadow is twice as long as the object itself (factor 2). The other schools believe it is Asr when an object's shadow is as long as the object (factor 1).
